A pleasant day for all ages of 3 generations. The "experience " building kept us busy, entertained and educational. The small exhibits interspersed were delightful (checkers, rope knot tying, etc) and kept us engaged almost every step if the way. The flower gardens on the deck not only served as a great barrier but were lovely. The cafe experience was a little chaotic, we even waited til 1:30 to avoid crowds. Tables outside are a nice touch. We will definitely come back.
I love how this museum is indoor and outdoor. The additional activities such as the festivals are fun. I also appreciate free admission days for Park residents.
We had a great time visiting exhibits of Adirondack canoes, sailing and power vessels of yesteryear, listening to a philosophical history of the Iroquois nation and Mohawk peoples given by Joshua Sergeant, enjoying the scenic vista of Blue Lake from the mountainside cafe, ambling about the site's 32 acres. If your into history and learning this is a wonderful place for both adults and children to bond. It's a bounty for all the senses. There's an interactive 4D canoeing exhibit in which the sense of motion through the lake waters is quite real. The log jam clearing exhibit also utilized an interactive branch used by loggers. There are many more activities for children and adults alike, all in beautifully kept grounds. So different from Disney or Universal, but a total pleasure to experience which is surrounded, unlike other theme parks, not in fake rocks and trees; but rather, by the lush verdant of the Adirondack forest itself. Get your dose of "vitamin N" . Well worth the visit if you're in the area.
Well worth the time; we spent half a day which didn't cover the entire "experience". A return trip is definitely in our future.
Lots of information on the Adirondacks. Local culture, history and thousands of items from donations. Info on canoe's, rivers, logging, all the Adirondacks have to offer. Would recommend to friends and family. Children might need a phone or something to keep them busy.
